Award Season Round-Up // 6 //

Welcome to Award Season Round-Up 2016. Award season is upon us and I will be covering the events, weekly, in the run up to the Oscars at the end of February. Tune in every Sunday at 1pm to see the what the week has to offer. This week was a quiet week with only one event. I have rounded up the best from that event.
Alicia Vikander attended the 31st Santa Barbara International Film Festival - Virtuoso’s Award last Saturday. The Swedish actress donned a purple and pink two piece. Her loose-fit purple trousers were complemented by the satin pink crop top. Ankle-strap heels were styled. I wishes she had chosen a different shoe but all in all this is a nice look.

Elizabeth Banks was also present for the 31st Santa Barbara International Film Festival - Virtuoso’s Award. The Love & Mercy actress opted for an eyeleted red gown with a plunging neckline. Ever the stylish red carpet persona, this look is decidedly subdued for Elizabeth.

Before Zoolander 2 promotion, Penelope Cruz was in her native Spain for the 2016 Goya Cinema Awards. Oozing effortless sophistication, her black gown with a sculpted body featured subtle embellishment on the bodice. Leave it to the pros like Penelope to school other dressers on how to make black not boring.

Brie Larson was all smiles on the red carpet at the 2016 Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon. The Room actress delivered her sartorial prowess in an Emilia Wickstead number. The blush pink top and striped skirt with quirky surface decoration was lovely, however the top was ill-fitting on Brie.

Jennifer Lawrence’s polarising style was the most interesting part about the 2016 Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon red carpet. From a scintillating turn in Christian Dior Haute Couture to this: a drab Stella McCartney tuxedo. Fit and cut perfectly, the look was notoriously insignificant compared to her last outing.
Alicia Vikander’s look for the 2016 Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon wasn’t that more exciting than Jennifer’s. The Danish Girl actress wore a Louis Vuitton red dress. What’s most peculiar about the dress is it’s anonymity.

Rachel McAdams combined crocodile, a red bow and crystal embellishment at the event. Three seemingly opposing materials, Miuccia Prada deftly weaved them together in her custom made mini dress. Styled simply with nude heels this look was the best of a mediocre bunch.

Lady Gaga also failed to excite at the luncheon. The Best Original Song nominee for her work for The Hunting Ground, chose a disinteresting, unimpressive Christian Siriano halter gown with a sweeping train. Missed opportunity.

Rooney Mara offered some semblance of change at the 2016 Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon. Her Giambattista Valli Haute Couture baby doll dress was enriched with floral embroidery. Black heels were styled. I’m still crying for colour from Rooney. When she injects some into her wardrobe then we’ll have winner.

Saoirse Ronan’s look was vaguely impressive. Her grey blazer and shorts combo was paired with a white blouse with a pussy bow. With exaggerated shoulders and an accentuated waist, this is another attempt at switching up her style. I’m intrigued to see her BAFTA look.
Alicia Vikander continued to amp up the boredom levels at The Hollywood Reporter Hosts 88th Academy Awards Nominees Night. Sporting an all black strapless jumpsuit, and accessorising with a choker, the Swedish actress once again fails to impress in a boring look.

Sadly, the mediocrity of this week’s award season round-up didn’t end there. Elizabeth Banks attended AARP’s 15th Annual Movies for Grownups Awards in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night. The actress, director and producer wore a colour-blocked white dress with turquoise, aqua and red features. The odd shape coupled with the layered skirt worsen the look.

Dakota Johnson took the red carpet at Kensington Palace for the Lancome & BAFTA Nominees Party yesterday evening. The How to Be Single actress opted for a Chanel tweed dress with gold accents. The dress itself is lovely, but the opaque tights and ugly shoes make me dislike this look.

Reappearing after an absence on the red carpet, Australian actress Cate Blanchett returned for the Lancome & BAFTA Nominees Party. Like Dakota, Cate also chose a Chanel dress. Her dress featured a black leather bodice and an intricately embellished skirt. Yawn.
