Award Season Round-Up // 1 //

Welcome to Award Season Round-Up 2016. Award season is upon us and I will be covering the events, weekly, in the run up to the Oscars at the end of February. Tune in every Sunday at 1pm to see the what the week had to offer. Next week’s post will feature the Golden Globes.
Brie Larson stepped out at the 27th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala last Saturday to accept her Breakthrough Award. The Room star wore an emerald green Jason Wu, calf-grazing dress from the pre-fall 2016 collection. Styled with simple heels, the look was completed with a beaming smile. This will be a good award season for Brie.

The sartorially-inclined Alicia Vikander was also present at the 27th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards GalaThe Danish Girl actress chose a surprising pink polka dot dress. I expect great things from Alicia but this is below par; the Erdem dress doesn’t translate well to the red carpet.

Cate Blanchett brought the glamour to the 27th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. Decked out in a custom made Marc Jacobs gown, the dress was enriched with delicate floral embellishment. This isn’t the most memorable beginning to award season but I’m sure she’ll amp things up soon.

Cate’s Carol co-star Rooney Mara was also present at last Saturday’s proceedings. Opting for a black Lanvin mini dress with lace trim, Rooney stayed true to her style but in an elegant and fashion-forward way. Hopefully, she’ll stray from black and white during this award season.

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan was another actress in attendance in Palm Springs last weekend. Looking fantastic in her multi-print long sleeve dress, bursting with various florals, Saorise starts off this award season on the right foot. I look forward to seeing what she has to offer.
It’s slightly startling to see Kristen Stewart smiling, but on Monday night at the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle Awards she had plenty to be happy about. She picked up the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Clouds of Sils Maria. The actress wore a Chanel Haute Couture 3-D quilted top and skirt combo with lace trim. This will go down as one of her best red carpet looks to date. She looks sublime.

Saoirse Ronan made her second award season appearance, also at the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle Awards, where she won the Best Actress award for Brooklyn. Looking stunning, Saoirse donned a black Victoria Beckham, form-fitting one-shouldered dress with an asymmetrical neckline. I can’t say I’ve ever seen her exude such elegance and refinement. Kudos to her.

Kristen Stewart was at the 2016 Film Society of Lincoln Centre Luncheon at Scarpetta on Tuesday afternoon. Continuing her refined, elegant streak, she chose a Chanel two piece. Her tailored military-styled blazer and pleated skirt was styled simple with two-tone heels and a vampy lip. Chanel’s pieces don’t often translate well to the red carpet, in Kristen’s hands: they’re magic.

Saoirse Ronan attended Burberry and Fox Searchlight’s Honour of the Cast and Filmmakers of ‘Brooklyn’ in Beverly Hills on Tuesday afternoon. Wearing a Burberry dress from the Pre-Fall 2016 collection, the eye-catching look is perfect for Saoirse. She styled copper and silver ombre heels with the look. Another hit for her.

Jessica Chastain arrived at the National Board of Review Awards in New York on Tuesday to support her co-star from The Martian, Matt Damon. The flame-haired actress chose an exquisite green colour. The dress itself, a Carl Kapp creation featured exquisite drapes but the end result was quite dull. A rare misstep from Ms. Chastain.
Emily Blunt also attended the National Board of Review Awards where her film Sicario was being honoured. Unfortunately, her electric blue Elie Saab lace dress with a windmill motif. Sophia Webster heels were added. I really disliked this look so hopefully we’ll see some standouts from her this season.

She’s done it again. Brie Larson hit another home run at the National Board of Review Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street. The Room actress wore a Fall 2015 Giambattista Valli Haute Couture mini dress with a lace neckline, blue and white disc print bustier and a floral printed skirt. Understated black heels completed the look. She’s brilliant.

Kristen Stewart wore her second look of the day at the National Board of Review Awards on Tuesday night. Choosing another Chanel dress— this one from the Pre-Fall 2016 collection—the intricately detailed dress with floral embroideries is lovely.

It was a particularly dire affair at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. Thankfully, Dakota Johnson added an ounce of stylistic flair to the proceedings. Accepting the Favourite Dramatic Movie Actress award for her role in Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota opted for a simple Armani Privé, midriff-bearing dress with delicate beading. Subtle but effective; quiet but it stands out amongst a bad bunch as the best of the night.

Michelle Monaghan attended W Magazine Celebration of the Best Performances Portfolio and the Golden Globes with Audi and Dom Perignon at Chateau Marmont on Thursday evening. Looking beautiful, she put her best foot forward in a Pre-Fall 2016 Prabal Gurung tuxedo with satin lapels. The floral printed suit was complemented by pale blue heels and a simple clutch. Perhaps one of the most exciting party look seen this award season.
Saoirse Ronan was also present at W Magazine Celebration of the Best Performances Portfolio and the Golden Globes with Audi and Dom Perignon. The February issue cover star wore a Roksanda two-piece, consisting of a top with a feather detail and floaty trousers. Whilst the look is not her strongest, I appreciate the effort.

Brie Larson also made another calculated sartorial attempt, at the W Magazine Celebration of the Best Performances Portfolio and the Golden Globes with Audi and Dom Perignon. The Room actress opted for a Resort 2016 Céline blue and white striped top, and navy high waisted trousers. She accessorised with a Céline bag. Not my favourite, but as with Saoirse: the effort is appreciated.

Cate Blanchett was another starlet present at W Magazine Celebration of the Best Performances Portfolio and the Golden Globes with Audi and Dom Perignon. The Carol actress donned a Spring 2016 Erdem blue lace dress with maroon accents. Only someone like Cate can carry a look like this off.

Alicia Vikander looked fantastic at W Magazine Celebration of the Best Performances Portfolio and the Golden Globes with Audi and Dom Perignon. Wearing Resort 2016 Marc Jacobs off-the-shoulder dress with graceful brushstrokes. Now this is the kind of glamour I expect from Alicia.
Rooney Mara attended the 16th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon. The Carol actress wore a grey cropped sweater and black pleated skirt. Understated elegance and Rooney go hand in hand but I’m dying to see something colourful and impactful from her.

Brie Larson has become quite the fashionista lately. At the 16th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon on Friday afternoon, she once again wowed me. Her Pre-Fall 2016 Gucci shirt dress with a beautiful floral and snake print was easily my favourite of the event. Michele’s Gucci is a celebrity goldmine. Hopefully we’ll see more positive results from it on Brie during award season.

Tracee Ellis Ross was all smiles at the 16th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon. The Blackish actress opted for a Resort 2016 Miu Miu dress with three distinct prints. The black body of the dress had yellow monkeys, which contrasted against the red against black collar and the white on black sleeves. Red heels finished her look. Her beaming smile amplifies the look.

It’s always a pleasure to see Homeland actress Claire Danes on the red carpet. For the 16th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon on Friday afternoon, the Golden Globe winner donned a silver Prada dress with a jewel encrusted bodice. Simple grey heels completed her look.

Cate Blanchett was the portrait of elegance at the 16th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon. The Australian actress proved she is one of the best dressed ladies around. Her white trench and trousers were paired with a layered blouse. She can do no wrong in my eyes.
Kirsten Dunst isn’t an actress we get to see on the red carpet often, so to see her at the 16th Annual AFI Awards Luncheon was a pleasure. Her sheer, floral printed dress in autumnal hues was complemented by effective accessories.

Rooney Mara was present for the Film Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Award Nominees Brunch. Choosing a diluted version of a Spring 2016 Proenza Schouler dress, the slinky white number exposed the shoulders and featured a black pussy bow. The ruffled look was styled with black heels. Patiently waiting.

Rooney’s Carol co-star Cate Blanchett was also in attendance at the Film Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Award Nominees Brunch yesterday afternoon. Her navy Delpozo jumpsuit featured an asymmetric dab of a camel colour and orange accents. Running out of things to say for how good she is.

Brie Larson, a nominee, attended the Film Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Award Nominees Brunch yesterday afternoon. I wasn’t particularly overjoyed by her choice. A Gabriella Hearst sheer black top and a cream skirt with orange fringe. My problem arises with the boring black stilettos—a million other actresses have been wearing them too—and the fact that you can see her vest underneath the top.

Bel Powley, a newcomer, stood out amongst her fellow nominees at the Film Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Award Nominees Brunch. The British actress wore a Spring 2016 Gucci dress bursting with intricate illustrations. A red band cinched the look at the waist. Bel is the perfect new-Gucci girl.
Cate made a quick outfit change before the 2015 BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party at the Four Seasons Hotel. She wore a black blouse and a pnk satin skirt. With simple decoration lining the front, the skirt was the most interesting part of the look. For the first time, she fails me.

Alicia Vikander was back on the red carpet at the 2015 BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party. The Swedish actress opted for a Spring 2016 Altuzarra striped, red dress. Like Cate, Rooney, Brie and Kristen Stewart, she styled her look with black point toe heels. Burn them.

Like Cate Blanchett, Bel Powley also had a quick outfit change prior to the 2015 BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party. Unlike Cate, Bel wowed in a floral embellished black dress with feather trimmings. Gold mules accessorised the look. Arguably one of the most promising acting talents, and now fashionista.

Saoirse Ronan was pretty in peach at the 2015 BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party on Saturday afternoon. Her dress and pleated skirt featured lace sleeves and collar with floral embroideries. Another home run for Saoirse. I have a feeling she will be one of the best dressed at the Golden Globes.

At the 41st Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards that evening at the InterContinental Century City, Alicia Vikander took to the red carpet again. Her crisp white, custom made Louis Vuitton draped dress featured the LV logo on the hip. Now this, alongside Brie in Palm Springs, Kristen and Saoirse at the NYFCCA, are my favourite looks of the week.
