Couture week kicked off on Sunday evening and over the next few days I will bring you the highlights from each day, everyday at 3:30!
5:00 p.m. : Ulyana Sergeenko
Russian designer, Ulyana Sergeenko kicked off haute couture week in Paris. With her friend, supermodel-turned-philanthropist Natalia Vodianova and burlesque star Dita von Teese front row, Sergeenko put on a lavish show at a lavish venue. There was a verdant garden festooned with comfortable sofas and arm chairs for guests to enjoy a glass of champagne. Backstage, models were tended to - getting their make-up done. Sexy, babushka-inspired cuts and prints were given a haute couture pizazz. Operatic fur coats and luscious silks along with delicate lace and sheer chiffon were sent down the runway. A pink, floral-embroidered chiffon skirt with an embellished sheer bodice - the final look - was my favourite. Couture is a tricky business, but with an artistic flair and knowledge of the customer, Ulyana Sergeenko is perfecting that that.

7:30 p.m. : Atelier Versace
You can’t help but be in awe of an Atelier Versace show. Sunday evening’s spectacle presented us with a hippy throwback with platform boots, flower crowns, floral embellishments and appliqués, and micro-mini lengths. The runway, an elevated glass platform, featured 25,000 orchids. Lara Stone, Anja Rubik, Joan Smalls, Kendall Jenner, Caroline Trentini, Mariacarla Boscono, Doutzen Kroes and Karlie Kloss all pounded the catwalk at the Palais Brongiart. There were flared hems and sleeves, decant floral appliqués trailing the models skin, thigh high splits as per usual. Frothy ball gowns were also given the Versace treatment. Pastels opened and closed the show but gothic blacks also took to the runway. Interconnecting medieval couture with hippy vibes and the sexy rocker, this collection was a journey of excessive days past but it was undeniably modern.
